Typhoon Odette Status Update

This is to update all owners of Bohol Jewel of the situation after being hit with category 5 Typhoon last night. Our property has suffered some damage but no one is hurt. I would like to thank Noel and Thomas who are living on site for all their help and information they have provided. I will provide as much detail as possible about the damages:

  • Water entered many upstairs apartments. In building 2 and 3 upstairs the winds blew rain into the glass sliding doors and in building 1 it blew from the back doors. No windows were broken. A few apartments also had water leaking from the roof. Today the apartments were opened to allow to dry out. Downstairs apartments were minimally affected.
  • A glass balcony panel of apartment 207 was broken, but all others are OK.
  • Some of the roof over the stairs going to the roofdeck was blown away. This was the stairs next to apartments 209, 112 and 108. In Building 3 it’s OK. The main roof is all OK, this is only the small roof over the stairs.
  • The ceiling panels above the stairs between buildings 3 and 4 was blown down. Also some ceiling panels in the back of building 1, and upper floor of building 4. This is the “aesthetic” meal ceilings under the roof on the 2nd floor walkways, not the roof itself. The main roofs are OK.
  • One tree around the pool was toppled, and another is leaning. All others are OK.
  • In the main restaurant water also was blown in but caused minimal damage.
  • The temporary barrier separating building 4 was blown down.
  • The swimming pool had a lot of debris that has been mostly cleaned already. The pumps are back on.
  • Some trees fell along the driveway near the road making it impossible to drive in or out. They were able to make a path for motorcycles and are asking barangay to come with a chain saw to cut the big trees.
  • The electric pole on the main highway toppled across the road and is blocking the road.
  • There is complete power out in the entire province that is expected to last many days because of so many downed power lines. The residents will be using the generator as needed.
  • Elsewhere in Bohol they were not so lucky, many parts of the Loboc river are completely flooded with many houses completely submerged up to the roof. Thousands of people have been displaced and left homeless.
